Green Hope is one of thirteen schools out of 170 in Wake County that has been selected to pilot BYOD – Bring Your Own Device. Allowing students to use their own smartphones, tablets, and laptops in class for specific tasks enables them to access the newest technology without a costly burden on stretched school budgets for purchase and maintenance.

Our students live in a fast-paced, high-tech, global environment where almost everything is on-demand and at their fingertips. They have never known life without the Internet, and they are quite savvy at connecting, collaborating, creating, and sharing online content with others. It makes sense to meet them where they are and use these strengths to promote their learning on devices with which they are already familiar. Through careful planning, communication, feedback, and evaluation by teachers, students, and parents, we hope to prepare our students for life outside the classroom as independent learners in careers that require new skills for constantly changing work environments.
Currently, Leadership and Teacher Teams are receiving training, to share with other teachers, through the WCPSS Instructional Technology and Media Services Department and the NCSU Friday Center. The Teacher Team has begun piloting the program this semester; the rest of the school will roll out BYOD next semester. We are excited to be able to bring this opportunity for 21st Century learning to our students! Let's all work together to make BYOD a success at GH!
